About 12 cars departed from Fall River Timmys Friday morning in somewhat damp conditions but we ran out of rain by Truro but it caught up to us agin as we found our accommodations on the Island.
Friday night was a special treat for British car owners at Bob and Sandy Bentley's home in New Glasgow with lots of tasty food and great company, and the rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the evening. Thanks again to the Bentley's for hosting this trademark event for the weekend.
Saturday morning we all headed to the Charlottetown waterfront in the rain again and set the cars up for display in a somewhat soggy field. This show has changed its flavour this year from all British and now open to any make and origin of automobile which certainly added interest to the event as there were Porsches, Lamborghini and many Lotii to drool over as well as an very impressive 1938 V-16 Series 90 Cadillac limo once owned by the Bronfman's of Seagram fame in Montreal.
As noon approached, the clouds seemed to thin out and by early afternoon there were blue skies everywhere and all the convertible tops came down quickly! Later in the afternoon, the dining tent opened up for drinks and dinner but it was not well attended, largely because of the $30 dinner ticket and overpriced wine and beer, something that should be corrected for next year.
The show was on Sunday as well with prize giving at noon followed by a lunch. Our Rick and Wendy Swain took everything with their recently fully restored 1959 Austin Healey 100-6, which is really stunning. Our congratulations to them for their well deserved wins - Best Restoration - 1950-59, Best in Class - Austin-Healey and Best in Show.
Late Sunday afternoon there was a well attended Lobster Boil at the Green Gables Bungalow Court with boil chefs Rick Swain and Keith Pertus along with loads of food brought by members and a bit of Red Truck wine! Great food, great friends and lots of laughs! Much thanks to Bob and Joyce Weir, operators of the Green Gables Bungalows for their great hospitality and setting up the feast area for us.
To sum up the relaxing weekend, it was wonderful with super friends and the show has great potential under this new format, regardless of the shows' shortcomings which I am sure the organizers will be paying attention to for next year.
