Father's Day Run to Pictou Lodge

It was a dull foggy morning; as are most mornings lately in the Halifax area it seems, when a Singer, a Sunbeam, a Mini, a Datsun (a what!), a MGB, a Jaguar, a Daimler, a Honda (another- a what!) left Timmys in Fall River; at 10:45, already 15 minutes behind schedule for the first leg of this years FDR (if we can do AHSMFFT, I can do FDR) to Pictou Lodge.

The plan was to follow Route 2 to Truro, but after getting behind every possible motor home and Sunday driver you could ever encounter on a Sunday morning we made our way to the 102 at Stewiacke in order to make up some time. I should mention that by now a Sunbeam; I wont name any owners names, had to stop off for gas, good planning Bob! In Truro we met 2 MGBs, 2 MGAs and a Honda. The weather was decidedly sunnier and warmer in Truro; so off came a few tops, off the cars that is. After a brief stop, it was decided, as we were still behind schedule to take route 104, instead of the more scenic old Route 4. The 2 MGAs did take route 4.
We arrived at the lodge with time to spare; 3 minutes actually and with no car troubles reported. Norm and Janet met us at the lodge.

Into the dining room we went. After much fussing and arranging; mostly by me, we had an absolutely fantastic meal, what an understatement! Soup, salads, pork, seafood casserole, Lobster or Eggs Benedict (or both, right Laura), an omelet station, desserts to die for. I hope I am right when I say everyone enjoyed their meals, there certainly was lots to choose from and lots of it.

Pictou Lodge is really quite a nice spot. Other than the dining room; there are cabins that can be rented, a swimming pool, a pool stocked with fish, bicycles, great scenery and a view of PEI.
At about 2:30 3:00; after picture taking and a little socializing, everyone started heading home, some via the Trans Canada, some by Route 4 and others thru the Musquodoboit Valley.
It was great to see such a large turnout, 39 people and 10 LBCs. It a pleasure to meet new members John Hughes and his son, Peter and Barbara Hyslop, as well as seeing everyone else who got out today on this wonderful run.

I would like to thank you all for making this day so pleasurable.
